SICOM6496 to zarządzalny modułowy switch ethernetowy warstwy 3. Posiada porty: 48x 10/100/1000Base-T(X) lub 48x Gigabitowych slotów SFP lub 96x 10/100/1000Base-T(X) RJ-45 oraz interfejs RS-232. Obsługuje warstwę 3 z pełną prędkością z przepływem full-duplex lub half-duplex. SICOM6496 obsługuje również protokoły DT-Ring.
