There is a wide offer of precise electronic energy meters on the market. Most of them are only for metering the current electricity consumption. By using the NPE/iMod telemetry module, the energy grid can be fully automated (smart grid) and metres intelligent (smart metering).

The NPE/iMod industrial computer uses two protocols for communication with the meters:

The NPE/iMod device can scan the whole M-bus network where it is connected, this makes the meter installation incredibly easy. A smart grid is a system where you can transmit measuring data from the smart meters to the telemetry control panel (NPE/iMod can be used as a control panel). The data from the meters might be shared with the use of a built-in Web server, the user or a system operator has a real time access to the data.

In addition, the NPE/iMod device has a built-in GSM modem, which enables communication with the electricity supplier and a transfer of the collected data with the GPRS network to the control panels, which are located many kilometres away.

With the GPRS modem you can check the electricity consumption at any time - you just need to send a simple SMS message. The built-in memory and the SD card support enables archiving all the values collected in the grid over a long period of time.
